The Civil Services Examination is a nationwide competitive examination in India conducted by the Union Public service commission for recruitment to various Civil Services of the Government of India, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS) among others.
The examination consists of the following three phases:
·Phase I: Preliminary examination - This is a qualifying test advertised in Feb–March and held in June–July each year. Results are published in mid-August.
·Phase II: Main examination - This is held in October every year. Results are usually published in the second week of March.
·Phase III: Personality Test (interview) - This is held in December each year. Final results are usually announced in May.
The training program for the selected candidates usually commences in September.
